How do you actually judge a film at a film festival?
Judging films at a film festival is an intricate process that encompasses evaluating various elements such as story, originality, relevance, screenplay, direction, camera work, and sound, among others. This challenging task requires a deep understanding and appreciation of the cinematic arts. We are proud to introduce the esteemed jury for the 3rd Return International Film & Art Festival 2023, who bring decades of experience and profound film theoretical knowledge to the table. Stephan Grossmann, Martina Eitner-Acheampong, and Dr. Lioba Schlösser are more than equipped to curate this year's festival winners.
Stephan Grossmann
Stephan Grossmann is a seasoned actor with a rich background in theater, film, and television. He completed his acting training at the "Konrad Wolf" Academy of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Stephan has been involved in numerous notable productions, including Maxim Gorky's "Summer Guests," the film adaptation of the novel "He's Back," and popular television series such as "Wolfsland" and "Tatort." His extensive experience on screen and stage provides invaluable insight into the art of performance and storytelling.
Dr. Lioba Schlösser
Dr. Lioba Schlösser combines academic rigor with practical experience in media studies. She earned her doctorate in media studies from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz after studying at the University of Siegen. Dr. Schlösser currently serves as the Coordinator for Equality and Diversity at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. She is also a lecturer at the Münster School of Design, Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, and the Filmakademie Ludwigsburg. Additionally, she works as a freelance journalist and publicist. Her academic and practical expertise in media studies ensures a well-rounded and analytical approach to evaluating films.
Martina Eitner-Acheampong
Martina Eitner-Acheampong brings a wealth of experience from her extensive career as an actress, director, and lecturer. She graduated from the Rostock Academy of Dramatic Art and has made numerous appearances on theater stages in Greifswald, Leipzig, and Berlin, as well as in films such as "The Golden Glove" and TV series like "Stromberg." Martina’s unique perspective from both in front of and behind the camera enriches the jury with her comprehensive understanding of acting, direction, and production.
