Description

An der Saale hellem Strande explores the memorialization of Delfin Guerra and Raúl Garcia Paret, two Cuban contract workers in the GDR who died in Merseburg in 1979. Through a visual tour of the city, the film assembles audio fragments, Stasi files, letters, and Facebook Chats into a reflection on forms of memorialization and continuities of racism.

Dirk Hornschuch (born in Thüringen, Eastern Germany) works on the borders between Fotography and Moved Imagery. He experiments with trick, montage, movement and sound. In his body of work he is concerning topics like the effects of the 1990s on the former East Block, the relationship between humans and nature and infrastructure in rural areas. Besides that he also gives workshops in stop-motion-animation. After several stops in Romania and Hungary, he studied at Burg Giebichenstein Academy of Fine Arts in Halle/Saale and currently holds a scholarship of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation.

Karl-Friedrich works as a freelance film director, screenwriter and producer in Leipzig. He completed the film programs TP2-Talentpool and Professional Media Masterclass financed by the Central German Media Fund. From 2006-2013 he was curator of the Leipzig experimental film festival “The Night of Radical Film.” Together with his brother Tilman König, he runs the production company 2Könige Film and produced and directed the independent feature film THE BLACK NAZI, which was released in cinemas nationwide in 2016 . In 2018 and 2020 he received scholarships from the Cultural Foundation of Saxony. His films have been shown at national and international festivals and won numerous awards. He is currently working on the fictional mini-series “BLUT” with funding from the Saxony Cultural Foundation.
