In 2023, the Tolowa Dee-ni' people alongside partnering tribes asserted sovereignty over the 700 square miles of their ancestral fisheries. Now in 2024, we see how marine science and resource management can be guided by community and culture.

Jeremy Charles(he/him) is a trailblazing Cherokee writer, director, and producer, and the founder of Pursuit Films, a Native-owned production powerhouse since 2014. Known for his bold storytelling and commitment to Indigenous representation, Jeremy’s work has earned prestigious accolades, including Webby Awards, Anthem Awards, Children’s Emmys, Sports Emmys, and Tellys. His films have captivated audiences at festivals worldwide, taking home top honors at the L.A. Skins Film Festival, Phoenix Film Festival, and DeadCenter Film Festival.
As the co-creator, director, and producer of the groundbreaking docu-series Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People, Jeremy led the project to 29 regional Emmys, including a Best Director win in 2017. His impact extends beyond the screen—he is an alum of the Native American Media Alliance TV Writers Fellowship and remains deeply committed to elevating Indigenous voices in narrative film, television, animation, and music.
Jeremy also serves as a Visionmaker Mentor and is on the Advisory Board of the Tri-City Collective, where he continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of storytellers.
